CTM: The Future of Compression Testing Equipment

Blending Form and Function in an Innovative Design

The CTM, designed by Universal Designovation Lab LLP, revolutionizes the way we interact with testing machines, combining advanced control mechanisms with cutting-edge aesthetics.

The CTM, short for Compression Testing Equipment, was inspired by the need to create a seamless interaction between man and machine. Universal Designovation Lab LLP aimed to balance form and function in a way that had never been done before, resulting in a product that integrates advanced control features with innovative product aesthetics.

What sets the CTM apart from other testing equipment is its unique technical features. The design boasts a full digital interface with pace rate indicators, making it easy to monitor and control the testing process. Additionally, the CTM is enhanced with microcontroller processor-based and servo-controlled models, ensuring precise and accurate results. But perhaps the most impressive feature is the mobile app-based control, which offers a user-centered design experience with an advanced UI and visually animated graphics.

The CTM is realized using state-of-the-art technology. The loading unit is constructed with a fully welded or two-pillar model, featuring a cross-head with a spherical seated platen. The lower platen is attached to the top of the piston, allowing for efficient and reliable testing of cubes up to 200 mm and cylinders up to 150 mm in diameter and 300 mm in height.

With dimensions of 500 mm in width, 520 mm in depth, and 1100 mm in height, the CTM is compact and versatile. The gauges are calibrated in Kilo Newton against a certified Proving Ring, ensuring accurate measurements. Each frame is tested for stability and alignment to prevent tension failure during testing and ensure center loading. The CTM also features a motorized hydraulic power pack with rapid approach and automatic overload protection.

The CTM's design has been carefully crafted to provide a simple, economic, and reliable means of testing concrete for its compressive strength. Its compact size makes it suitable for both site and laboratory applications, offering convenience and flexibility. The project, which started in July 2014 at Universal Designovation Lab LLP in Rajkot and concluded in April 2015 at EIE Manufacturing Centre in Ahmedabad, covered extensive research, concept development, and manufacturing stages.

One of the main challenges faced during the design process was to create a two-pillar-based testing equipment that could eliminate the need for four pillars under the same load conditions. This innovative solution not only improved the efficiency of the CTM but also enhanced its overall design.

The CTM has been recognized for its outstanding design and innovation. It was awarded the Silver A' Design Award in the Scientific Instruments and Research Equipment Design category in 2016. This prestigious accolade is a testament to the CTM's exceptional technical characteristics, remarkable artistic skill, and overall excellence.

The CTM is not just a testing machine; it represents the future of compression testing equipment. Its advanced control mechanisms, user-centered design, and visually appealing aesthetics make it a game-changer in the industry. With the CTM, Universal Designovation Lab LLP has successfully blended form and function to create a truly remarkable and innovative design.
